Module: CISCO-EIGRP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-EIGRP-MIB::cEigrpAuthKeyChain

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.449.1.5.1.1.23

Type: SnmpAdminString

Access: read-only

Description: The name of the authentication key-chain configured on this interface. The key-chain is a reference to which set of secret keys are to be accessed in order to determine which secret key string to use. The key chain name is not the secret key string password and can also be used in other routing protocols, such as RIP and ISIS.

What is cEigrpAuthKeyChain?

This reports the name of the key-chain configured on the interface, which EIGRP references to look up which secret key string to use for authenticating packets, rather than the secret itself. Because the same key-chain name construct is shared with other IOS routing protocols like RIP and ISIS, mistakenly pointing EIGRP at a key-chain intended for a different protocol, with mismatched key rotation timing, is a real, specific misconfiguration this field can help catch. Seeing this object report 'RIP-KEYS' on an EIGRP interface would immediately flag that the wrong key-chain has been applied.
