Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for the Cisco Distributed Management Event MIB on IOS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DISMAN-EVENT-CAPABILITY?

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module describing which parts of the IETF DISMAN-EVENT-MIB a Cisco IOS agent implementation supports. It contains no managed objects of its own, only statements about supported groups, variations, and value ranges for the standard Distributed Management Event MIB used for scripting SNMP-triggered event and trigger actions on a device. Because it carries no runtime data, it is not itself used to monitor hardware or software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load; that monitoring happens through whatever objects are actually configured via DISMAN-EVENT-MIB. It is entirely dependent on, and meaningless without, the IETF DISMAN-EVENT-MIB (RFC 2981/3877 family) it documents. It is consulted by MIB compilers and NMS platforms to determine feature support per Cisco IOS release rather than polled for operational data. Engineers can download the CISCO-DISMAN-EVENT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DISMAN-EVENT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS devices
  • vendor-specific conformance module, not a data-bearing MIB

Monitoring Examples

As a capabilities-only module it defines no data objects or tables to poll; there are no sample runtime objects to reference. Any actual event/trigger monitoring scenario would be built against the underlying DISMAN-EVENT-MIB's mteTriggerTable and mteEventTable, not against this capability statement.
