Because SSL records combine encryption and integrity-hashing in one operation, this counter is specifically useful for devices doing SSL/TLS offload, like an SSL VPN gateway, giving the admin a direct measure of outbound SSL session traffic volume handled by this accelerator. On an SSL VPN concentrator, an admin would expect this counter to scale with the number of concurrent clientless SSL VPN sessions actively transferring data through this module.
