cApsNotifiesEnable

Module: CISCO-APS-EXT-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-APS-EXT-MIB::cApsNotifiesEnable

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.72.1.1

Description: When this object is set to 'true', it allows the generation of the APS-related notifications defined in the CISCO-APS-MIB. When this object is set to 'false', it prevents the generation of the APS-related notifications defined in the CISCO-APS-MIB. By default, this object is set to 'false'.

What is cApsNotifiesEnable?

This flag enables or disables SNMP trap generation for APS (Automatic Protection Switching) events defined in the related CISCO-APS-MIB, and it defaults to false, meaning APS traps are silent unless an admin explicitly turns them on. Since APS governs automatic failover on protected SONET/optical circuits, leaving this at the false default means an admin's NMS won't be proactively alerted to protection switches, mode mismatches, or signal degrade events and would have to poll the APS status objects instead. For example, an admin who wants to be paged immediately when a SONET protection switch occurs must explicitly set this to true, since it isn't enabled out of the box.
