Description: Specifies if the circuit is to be established over rings that are logically configured as 'protected'. A protected ring could physically be in a fault state where one fiber has failed. A circuit that requires redundancy will be established over rings logically configured as 'protected' even though the current physical state of a protected ring may be in a fault state.
What is circuitIsRedundancyReqd?
This boolean flag specifies whether this circuit must be routed only over rings that are logically configured as protected, meaning rings with a designated backup fiber path, and notably this requirement is evaluated against the ring's logical configuration rather than its momentary physical health -- a protected ring currently experiencing a fiber fault is still eligible if it's logically marked protected. Setting this to true for a business-critical circuit ensures it only ever traverses rings with failover capability designed in, even if that means it can't be routed over an unprotected ring that might otherwise have available capacity. For example, a circuit carrying mission-critical voice traffic would have this set to true(1) so the device refuses to route it over any unprotected ring segment, prioritizing resilience over raw path availability.
