cigDhcpClientsSubnetMask

Module: CIG-CLIENTS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIG-CLIENTS-MIB::cigDhcpClientsSubnetMask

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6889.2.1.17.1.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: IpAddress

Access: read-only

Description: The subnet mask associated with the IP address of this entry. The value of the mask is an IP address with all the network bits set to 1 and all the hosts bits set to 0. In case of DHCP client this is DHCP option 1 == Subnet Mask. This is the same MIB item as ipInterface table in CROUTE-MIB.

What is cigDhcpClientsSubnetMask?

This reports the subnet mask this interface received from the DHCP server as option 1, which together with cigDhcpClientsIPAddress defines the actual usable network the interface believes it's on. An admin seeing unexpected routing behavior on a DHCP-configured interface should verify this mask matches what's actually configured on the upstream DHCP server's scope, since a subnet mask mismatch, say receiving a /24 mask when the actual network is a /28, would cause the device to misjudge which destinations are locally reachable versus needing to be routed. For example, a mask of 255.255.255.0 received here means the device will treat all addresses in that /24 as directly reachable without going through a gateway.
