Bound - Receiving ACK packet and there is no conflict detection by sending ARP packets. Rebind - After 0.875 out of the lease time the renewal phase enter to rebind. Renew - After 0.5 out of the lease time the device try to renew the lease until 0.875 of the lease time. Release - The client release the lease. Decline - The client detect IP conflict by sending ARP packet. Idle - The client did not get IP address and keep trying after an Idle time (~40 seconds) to reach new IP address.
What is cigDhcpClientsStatus?
This reports exactly where this interface's DHCP client currently sits in the standard DHCP state machine, for example bound meaning it holds a valid, unexpired lease with no known conflict, versus rebind meaning it's past the T2 timer and now broadcasting to any server after the original server didn't respond to a unicast renewal, giving an admin the same diagnostic granularity a packet capture would provide without needing to actually capture traffic. An interface stuck cycling through select and request repeatedly indicates the client isn't getting any usable offers at all, a very different problem than one stuck in rebind, which at least previously had a working lease. For example, an interface reported as being in the decline state indicates the client itself detected an address conflict via ARP with the offered address and rejected it, pointing an admin toward a duplicate-IP problem on that segment rather than a DHCP server availability issue.
