Module: CIENA-CES-RSVPTE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-RSVPTE-MIB::cienaCesRsvpteRetryMax

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The maximum number of retry attempts that will be made before a persistent tunnel is deemed inoperable. Once in this state, a management agent should set mplsTunnelAdminStatus to 'up' to attempt to re-establish the tunnel. This field is not used when cienaCesRsvpteRetryInfiniteState is on.

What is cienaCesRsvpteRetryMax?

This caps the number of retry attempts RSVP-TE makes to re-establish a persistent tunnel before marking it inoperable and giving up automatically. Per the object's own description, once a tunnel hits this limit and is marked inoperable, it requires an explicit management action, setting mplsTunnelAdminStatus back to up, to try again; it won't self-heal on its own after reaching this cap, a specific operational gotcha for an admin who assumes all tunnel failures eventually self-resolve. For example, with this set to 10, a tunnel experiencing a prolonged outage would automatically stop retrying after the 10th failed attempt and sit inoperable until an admin manually re-triggers it.
