The Organizationally Unique Identifier is a more rigorous, machine-parseable way to identify the transceiver's actual manufacturer than the free-text vendor name field. That matters to automated inventory or compliance tools verifying that only traceable, IEEE-registered optics are deployed, rather than relying on a string that could be blank or inconsistently formatted. For example, an OUI value that doesn't map to any known registered manufacturer would flag this specific transceiver as a potentially unbranded or grey-market part worth further scrutiny.
