This is the path-layer counterpart to Esl, so comparing the two for the same Stats bin tells an admin whether errors are originating in the framed payload path (Esp elevated, Esl low) or in the raw line signal itself (both elevated together). For example, 38 path errored seconds against a much lower Esl count in the same bin on this port suggests a far-end framing or timing problem rather than a local physical-layer fault.
