This counter reports the total number of bytes of ingress traffic on this element that matched the configured access/classification rule being measured here. Because this figure is a life-to-date total which itself never resets, a flat value over its entire tracked lifetime despite the rule still being configured is itself informative -- it means the rule has never actually matched a single byte since it was created, not just that it's currently quiet. For example, an access rule configured months ago for a customer VLAN that still shows zero life-to-date hit bytes points to a provisioning mistake, such as the wrong VLAN ID in the rule, that a single recent bin might mask.
