cienaCesAclEntryDscpMask

Module: CIENA-CES-ACL-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-ACL-MIB::cienaCesAclEntryDscpMask

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.1.25.1.2.1.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: This object indicates the DSCP values for which IP packets are allowed to ingress. The mask is big endian and each bit, numbered from 0 to 63, represents a DSCP value numbered from 0 to 63. A value of 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF may be used to specify all.

What is cienaCesAclEntryDscpMask?

This 8-byte bitmask specifies exactly which of the 64 possible DSCP values this ACL entry will accept for traffic from its authorized source, with each individual bit position independently controlling whether that specific marking is allowed, and a mask of all-ones meaning every DSCP value is accepted. An admin uses a restrictive mask here specifically to scope an otherwise-broad source authorization down to only traffic carrying expected QoS markings, closing off a path where an authorized source's traffic marked unexpectedly could otherwise slip through unnoticed. For example, an admin authorizing a VoIP gateway's source subnet might set this mask to only permit DSCP 46 (EF/voice), so if that gateway is ever compromised and starts sending unusually-marked traffic, this entry's DSCP check alone would reject it even though the source address remains authorized.
