Description: This object sets the threshold value of the number of Byte Errors Corrected on an applicable trunk side interface.

What is cMsDwdmFECThreshByteErrCor?

This is the configurable alarm threshold for the FEC byte-error-correction counter on a DWDM trunk-side interface; once the actual corrected-error count, tracked in cMsDwdmFECCurrentByteErrCor and cMsDwdmFECIntervalByteErrCor, crosses this value, the system is expected to raise a degraded-signal condition. Setting this threshold too high delays detection of a genuinely degrading optical path until errors are already severe, while setting it too low generates alarm noise from normal, healthy FEC activity that corrects a baseline level of errors as designed. An engineer tuning alarm sensitivity on a long-haul DWDM trunk with known marginal fiber might deliberately raise this threshold slightly above the historical baseline correction rate to avoid nuisance alarms while still catching real degradation trends.
