This counter reflects how often connections are being torn down on this port for any reason -- normal hangups as well as failures -- and its rate relative to NumSetupPdu roughly indicates average call duration and churn on the trunk. For example, a sudden spike in RELEASE transmissions without a matching rise in new SETUPs would suggest something is actively clearing existing calls, such as a card reset or a T309 signaling-link recovery event.
