nodeSerial

Module: CASCADE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CASCADE-MIB::nodeSerial

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.3.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: The serial number (i.e., Ethernet Addr) of the switch.

What is nodeSerial?

This reports the switch's serial number, noted in the description as being derived from its Ethernet MAC address rather than a separately stamped serial. An asset-tracking system uses nodeSerial as the unique hardware identifier when reconciling SNMP-discovered devices against a physical inventory list.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.3.7
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CASCADE-MIB::nodeSerial

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.3.7.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CASCADE-MIB::nodeSerial.1
