nodeDiagBackgroundFailures

OID (symbolic): CASCADE-MIB::nodeDiagBackgroundFailures

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.3.50

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Description: Number of failures discovered by background diagnostics.

What is nodeDiagBackgroundFailures?

This counts failures discovered specifically by the background, ongoing, in-service diagnostic routine, as opposed to power-on self-test. Any non-zero, growing nodeDiagBackgroundFailures count on a switch that's otherwise passing traffic normally warrants investigation, since it means the hardware is failing self-checks even while apparently functioning.
