Description: This variable states the number of digits used for defining the Area Mask for SMDS Addresses.

What is netSmdsAreaMaskDigits?

This specifies how many digits, starting at netSmdsAreaMaskStart, make up the area mask portion of an SMDS address on this network, together defining the address range treated as one routing area. Misconfiguring netSmdsAreaMaskDigits relative to the carrier's actual numbering plan would cause the switch to misclassify which SMDS addresses belong to the same service area.
