A value of error(2) tells the admin that a TDM/CBR circuit -- such as a T1 emulated over ATM -- is likely producing audible clicks or sync loss because upstream cells aren't arriving fast enough. For example, this could trip to error on a voice-over-ATM CBR port during a burst of switch-fabric congestion, prompting a check of the bandwidth allocated to that lport's shaper.
