lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaValFail

Module: CASCADE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CASCADE-MIB::lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaValFail

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.5.1.1.237

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: This object provides the Smds destination address and Smds source address of the last Smds pdu to cause the violation Smds Sa Val Fail. The first 8 bytes of the octet string (i.e.; 16 digits in BCD format) correspond to the destination address. The second 8 bytes correspond to the source address.

What is lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaValFail?

This 16-byte octet string captures the destination and source SMDS addresses of the last PDU that triggered the 'Sa Val Fail' violation, meaning the source address itself failed validation -- likely a malformed or improperly formatted BCD address rather than simply an unregistered one. An admin decoding the source half of this pair can spot a customer device sending PDUs with a corrupted or incorrectly encoded source address field. For example, a misconfigured SMDS adapter that pads its address incorrectly would generate this violation with a source field that doesn't parse as a valid 8-byte BCD number.
