lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaTypeInvalid

Module: CASCADE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CASCADE-MIB::lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaTypeInvalid

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.5.1.1.241

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: This object provides the Smds destination address and Smds source address of the last Smds pdu to cause the violation Smds Sa Type Invalid. The first 8 bytes of the octet string (i.e.; 16 digits in BCD format) correspond to the destination address. The second 8 bytes correspond to the source address.

What is lportSmdsPduHdrSip3SaTypeInvalid?

This 16-byte octet string captures the destination and source SMDS addresses of the last PDU that triggered the 'Sa Type Invalid' violation, meaning the type field encoded within the source address itself (individual vs. group) was set to an invalid or unexpected value. An admin decoding the source half of this pair can spot malformed addressing coming from a specific customer device, distinct from an address that's simply unregistered. For example, a buggy SMDS CSU/DSU firmware that incorrectly sets the address-type bits on outgoing PDUs would generate this violation consistently until the firmware is fixed.
