An admin tunes this to balance fast link-down detection against LMI chatter; setting it too low on a busy trunk can add unnecessary signaling overhead. For example, setting lportDceVerifTimer to 10 seconds means the DCE will issue a verification poll roughly every 10 seconds, so a dead DTE gets flagged noticeably faster than with a 60-second setting.
