Module: CASCADE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CASCADE-MIB::cktDeltaBc

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.6.1.1.140

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The maximum number of bits that the network agree to transfer over the circuit as committed bits during the measurement interval under the CONDITION that the circuit still has POSITIVE committed bit (Bc) credits before receiving a frame but will have NEGATIVE Bc credits after accepting the frame. The range of this variable is 0 to 65,528 bits. By default, if not configured when creating the entry, it is set to 65,528 bits.

What is cktDeltaBc?

This defines a special committed-bit allowance specifically for the edge case where a circuit has positive Bc credit before a frame arrives but would go negative after accepting it -- a grace allowance letting that one frame through as committed traffic rather than immediately reclassifying part of it as excess. An admin fine-tuning congestion behavior for large-frame protocols, where a single frame could easily straddle the Bc boundary, would adjust cktDeltaBc to control how generous that grace allowance is, with the default of 65,528 bits rarely needing to be lowered except on very tightly-provisioned circuits. For example, a circuit carrying large Ethernet-bridged frames near its Bc limit relies on cktDeltaBc to avoid having a single large frame arbitrarily split between committed and excess treatment mid-frame.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.6.1.1.140
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CASCADE-MIB::cktDeltaBc

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.6.1.1.140.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CASCADE-MIB::cktDeltaBc.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.277.1.6.1.1.140.1 i <value>
