Description: Manages subscriber tunnel configuration and session statistics for GRE/L2TP tunnels on Benu Networks gateways.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BENU-SUB-TUNNEL-MIB?

BENU-SUB-TUNNEL-MIB is a Benu Networks enterprise MIB covering subscriber and tunnel management on Benu broadband gateway platforms, tracking capacity and utilization of GRE/L2TP tunnels used to carry subscriber sessions. It exposes configuration/threshold objects — maximum subscriber and tunnel counts (bWagSubMaxNumOfSubscribers, bWagTunMaxNumOfTunnels) and high/low threshold pairs for both subscribers and tunnels. Rather than hardware, this MIB monitors software/service capacity status: how close the gateway is to its subscriber or tunnel session limits, which is critical for catching resource exhaustion before it causes service outages. It is a vendor-specific extension used alongside Benu's other gateway MIBs (such as BENU-CHASSIS-MIB) rather than a standard IETF tunnel MIB. Typical deployment is on a Benu Networks BNG/wireless gateway terminating large numbers of subscriber tunnels for broadband or Wi-Fi offload services, where BENU-SUB-TUNNEL-MIB SNMP monitoring gives early warning before subscriber or tunnel capacity limits are reached.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BENU-SUB-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Benu Networks broadband/wireless gateway (BNG)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll bWagSubMaxNumOfSubscribers against the current subscriber count and compare it to bWagSubHighThreshold/bWagSubLowThreshold to get early warning before hitting the subscriber ceiling. Similarly, bWagTunMaxNumOfTunnels versus bWagTunHighThreshold/bWagTunLowThreshold flags when active GRE/L2TP tunnel counts approach capacity. Crossing a high threshold would typically trigger a trap so operators can provision additional gateway capacity before new subscriber sessions are rejected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • subscriber count vs. maximum
  • subscriber high/low threshold status
  • tunnel count vs. maximum
  • tunnel high/low threshold status
