Description: Manages Network Edge Services (NES) subscriber policy and session control on Avaya/Nortel ERS platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BAY-STACK-NES-MIB?
BAY-STACK-NES-MIB is an Avaya (formerly Nortel) proprietary MIB for the Energy Saver / Network Edge Services feature on BayStack ERS switches, controlling power-saving behavior for PoE ports. It exposes global enable flags for energy saving, PoE power saving, and efficiency mode, plus a schedule table specifying day, hour, minute, and action for automated power-saving events. Its monitoring value centers on power/software configuration status: confirming whether energy-saving features are currently active (bsnesEnergySaverActive) and whether scheduled power-down/up actions are correctly configured and firing as expected, which affects power delivery to connected devices at scheduled times. It is a self-contained proprietary feature module without heavy dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed in enterprise networks using Avaya/Nortel ERS switches to reduce energy consumption on PoE ports during off-hours. Engineers can download the BAY-STACK-NES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAY-STACK-NES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Avaya/Nortel BayStack Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check bsnesEnergySaverEnabled and bsnesEnergySaverActive to confirm the energy-saving feature is both configured and currently in effect, and inspect bsnesScheduleTable/bsnesScheduleEntry entries (bsnesScheduleDay, bsnesScheduleHour, bsnesScheduleAction) to verify a scheduled power-down is set for the intended time. If bsnesPoePowerSavingEnabled is on but connected phones lose power unexpectedly during business hours, that would point to a misconfigured schedule entry.
What Can Be Monitored
- energy saver enabled/active state
- PoE power saving status
- efficiency mode status
- scheduled power action time
- schedule row status
