Category: Vendor: Allied Telesis

Description: Manages system logging configuration, log buffer size, and retrieval of log entries on Allied Telesis network equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AT-LOG-MIB?

AT-LOG-MIB is an Allied Telesis enterprise MIB that manages the device's internal event logging subsystem, covering both a buffered (volatile, in-memory) log and a permanent (persistent) log of system events. It exposes objects for configuring log buffer size and behavior and for retrieving individual log entries remotely via SNMP rather than requiring console/CLI access. Its core monitoring value is software/operational status visibility: administrators use it to detect recent system events, errors, or state changes recorded by the device's own logging engine, effectively surfacing software-level fault and diagnostic history rather than hardware sensor readings. As a self-contained enterprise logging MIB it has no strong dependency on external standard MIBs. It is typically used on Allied Telesis switches and routers where centralized log retrieval via SNMP supplements or replaces syslog for fault diagnosis. Engineers can download the AT-LOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AT-LOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Allied Telesis switch
  • Allied Telesis router

Monitoring Examples

Although no specific object names were provided in the source excerpt, a typical polling pattern for this MIB involves reading log-entry table rows from the buffered log to retrieve recent event severity, timestamp, and message text, and comparing buffer occupancy against configured buffer size to detect log wraparound before older entries are lost. An admin noticing a spike in logged error-severity entries in the buffered log, absent from the permanent log, would know a transient fault occurred that has not yet been persisted.

What Can Be Monitored

  • buffered log entries
  • permanent log entries
  • log buffer size/utilization
  • log retrieval status
