This Boolean controls whether ICMP Echo Request/Reply (ping) frames count as activity to prevent ISDN disconnection. Network engineers disable this when they don't want monitoring pings to keep expensive ISDN calls alive. Enabling it allows monitoring systems to keep links active solely through periodic keepalive pings.
