This counter tallies RIP redirect packets received, which are advisory messages telling the device to use a better next-hop router for certain destinations. Engineers monitor this to confirm the RIP routing protocol is dynamically optimizing paths. A sudden increase in redirects means the routing topology has changed and the device is learning more efficient routes.
