All MIBs › A3COM-HUAWEI-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB
Organization: Hangzhou H3C Tech. Co., Ltd.
Last Updated: 2008-06-25
Category: VPN and Security, Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: Manages web-based (HTTP) user authentication on H3C/3Com network access devices, providing portal redirect configuration and authenticated session tables.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB?
This MIB manages web-based (portal/HTTP) user authentication on H3C/3Com network access devices, a mechanism commonly used for guest or captive-portal network access. It centers on trap objects reporting authentication events, carrying data such as the client's VLAN ID, MAC address, and a reason/action code describing the outcome of an authentication attempt. Rather than continuous polling of hardware status, its monitoring value is event-driven: it lets an operator track authentication failures, session terminations, or portal redirect actions in near real time to detect access-control problems or abuse. It relies on the switch's underlying VLAN and MAC-address-table infrastructure (standard bridge MIBs) for the identifying data in its traps. It's deployed on H3C/3Com access switches or wireless controllers implementing portal-based network access control. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-WEB-AUTHENTICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C/3Com network access switches/wireless controllers
Monitoring Examples
An operator would subscribe to the h3cWaTrap notification and inspect its bound variables h3cWaClientMacAddr, h3cWaVlanID, h3cWaReasonCode, and h3cWaActionCode to see which client failed or succeeded a web-authentication attempt and why, for example spotting a spike in a particular reason code indicating a portal-server outage. Because there's no persistent runtime data table, this MIB is monitored primarily via trap reception rather than polling.
What Can Be Monitored
- web authentication trap events
- client MAC address on auth attempt
- VLAN ID of authenticating client
- authentication reason code
- authentication action code
