Category: ZyXEL System and Hardware Management

Description: Manages ZyXEL switch cluster configurations enabling central management of multiple switches as a single unit.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-CLUSTER-MIB?

ZYXEL-CLUSTER-MIB manages ZyXEL switch clustering, a feature that lets an administrator centrally manage a group of ZyXEL switches through a single master switch as if they were one logical unit. It exposes configuration objects for defining cluster membership, electing/identifying the master switch, and objects reflecting each member switch's role and cluster status. Its monitoring relevance is primarily around software/management-plane health: an administrator can confirm which switches are currently active cluster members, detect a member that has dropped out of the cluster, and verify the master switch is reachable for centralized management. It is a ZyXEL-proprietary layer built on standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions with no dependency on a broader IETF cluster standard. It is deployed across groups of ZyXEL managed switches in wiring closets or campus networks to simplify multi-switch administration, and network administrators can get the ZYXEL-CLUSTER-MIB download directly from ZyXEL to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-CLUSTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL managed Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

No object names were captured in sample_objects, but consistent with its purpose the module would expose a cluster-member table listing each member switch's identity, role (master/member), and join status. An administrator would poll this table to detect a switch that has unexpectedly left the cluster, meaning that switch is no longer reachable through the centralized cluster management interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster membership list
  • master switch identity
  • member switch role
  • cluster join/status state
