What is mdmStatStatus?

This read-only enumerated object reports a modem's current operational state: busy(1) handling a call, available(2) and idle, busiedOut(3) manually taken out of service, failed(4) from a boot-time diagnostic, crashed(5) as detected by the driver, or outOfService(6) automatically removed; it corresponds to the na/admin command 'modem -m <number>'. An admin scans this field across all modems to quickly spot which ones are down and why. Seeing crashed(5) on modem 12 tells the admin the driver itself flagged that modem as failed, distinct from a boot-time hardware failure.
