sonetPortLoopbackConfig

Module: XYLAN-POS3-MIB

OID (symbolic): XYLAN-POS3-MIB::sonetPortLoopbackConfig

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.800.2.11.4.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This variable represents the loopback confi- guration of the Sonet interface. Agents support- ing read/write access should return badValue in response to a requested loopback state that the interface does not support. The values mean:

sonetNoLoop Not in the loopback state. A device that is not capable of performing a loopback on the interface shall always return this as it's value.

sonetPayloadLoop The received signal at this interface is looped through the device. Typically the received signal is looped back for re- transmission after it has passed through the device's framing function.

sonetLineLoop The received signal at this interface does not go through the device (minimum pene- tration) but is looped back out.

sonetOtherLoop Loopbacks that are not defined here.

What is sonetPortLoopbackConfig?

A read-write enumeration setting the loopback mode of this SONET interface: sonetNoLoop for normal operation, sonetPayloadLoop to loop the received signal back after it passes through the device's framing function, sonetLineLoop to loop the received signal back with minimal penetration into the device, or sonetOtherLoop for vendor-specific loopback modes. Loopback modes let an admin isolate whether a fault lies in the local framing hardware or further out on the line, by choosing how deep into the device the looped signal travels before being sent back; an agent returns badValue for a loopback mode it doesn't support. An admin diagnosing a suspected framer issue might set this to sonetPayloadLoop to verify the device's own framing circuitry, while sonetLineLoop would instead test more of the outward-facing line path.
