xsecurityParentDepth

Module: XEDIA-SECURITY-MIB

OID (symbolic): XEDIA-SECURITY-MIB::xsecurityParentDepth

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.8.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The number of 'parent' nodes inwhich the security checks are performed for any given object. The security checks start at the endpoint (the actual object requested) and traverse upwards, checking the immediate parent node, then that parent's parent, etc., until the maximun number of parents is reached, or there are no more parents.

What is xsecurityParentDepth?

This value sets how many levels of parent nodes, from 2 to 32, the security-checking mechanism walks up through when evaluating access to a requested object, starting at the object itself and checking successive parents until this depth or the top of the tree is reached. Administrators tune it to control how far up the MIB tree the security hierarchy is enforced. For example, lowering this depth from the default of 20 would make the security check stop climbing parent nodes sooner, relying more on the specific object's own configured security level rather than inherited settings from distant ancestors.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.8.1.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> XEDIA-SECURITY-MIB::xsecurityParentDepth

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.8.1.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> XEDIA-SECURITY-MIB::xsecurityParentDepth.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.8.1.1.2.1 i <value>
