xifRowStatus
Module: XEDIA-IF-MIB
OID (symbolic): XEDIA-IF-MIB::xifRowStatus
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.40.1.2.1.1
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: RowStatus
Access: read-create
Description: This object is used to add entries to the ifTable.
The object ifStackStatus, from the standard ifStack table is
covered here as well. It is used to connect and disconnect
ifEntries.
When creating a new entry, the value of xifRowStatus must be
createAndGo(4). In addition, the ifName object must be supplied in
the same PDU.
Choosing the ifIndex value:
While any ifIndex value may be supplied, in order to avoid an
error and choose the best value for ifIndex, the xifNextIndex
object should be used. It is a test-and-increment variable which
means that the client must first get the present value and then do
a set (on xifNextIndex) with that same value. If that sequence is
succesfull then the client owns that value (until the next reset
of the system unless the value is actually used to create an
entry).
Choosing the ifName value:
The choice for ifName must conform to the format:
What is xifRowStatus?
This object is the RowStatus control used to add new entries to the ifTable using Xedia's proprietary interface-creation extension, requiring createAndGo(4) along with a supplied ifName in the same SNMP request to successfully provision a new interface. An administrator uses this, together with xifNextIndex for choosing the ifIndex and a properly formatted ifName like 'eth.1' or 'frame-relay.new', to build new logical or physical interfaces entirely via SNMP. For example, setting xifRowStatus to createAndGo(4) alongside ifName 'cbq.new' for a reserved ifIndex creates a new CBQ interface on the device through this SNMP-driven provisioning mechanism.
