wwpContainmentMulticastAction

Module: WWP-CONTAINMENT-MIB

OID (symbolic): WWP-CONTAINMENT-MIB::wwpContainmentMulticastAction

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6141.2.55.1.1.2.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This value defines the action that is associated with the multicast containment mechanism for this port.

When this object contains the value of disable(1), then all multicast containment activity for this port is disabled.

When this object contains the value of monitor(1), then the multicast containment mechanism will not inhibit packet forwarding on this port while the multicast containment mechanism is engaged. This setting is useful for monitoring SNMP traps that may be generated by the multicast containment mechanism.

When this object contains the value of throttle(2), then the multicast containment mechanism will inhibit packet forwarding on this port while the multicast containment mechanism is engaged.

What is wwpContainmentMulticastAction?

This read-write enumerated value sets what the multicast containment mechanism does on this port when triggered: disable(1) turns off containment entirely, monitor(2) lets traps fire without blocking forwarding, and throttle(3) actively inhibits forwarding while engaged. Admins choose monitor(2) to observe multicast storm conditions via traps without impacting traffic, or throttle(3) to actively protect the network once conditions are understood. For example, setting this to throttle(3) would cause the switch to stop forwarding multicast traffic on that port once the storm threshold is exceeded.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.6141.2.55.1.1.2.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> WWP-CONTAINMENT-MIB::wwpContainmentMulticastAction

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.6141.2.55.1.1.2.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> WWP-CONTAINMENT-MIB::wwpContainmentMulticastAction.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.6141.2.55.1.1.2.1.2.1 i <value>

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> wwpContainmentMulticastAction.1
