snmpGenWriteCommunityString

Module: WL400-SNMPGEN-MIB

OID (symbolic): WL400-SNMPGEN-MIB::snmpGenWriteCommunityString

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.232.144.1.2.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-write

Description: The community string to use for SNMP communication with this entity when the SNMP operation is a SET Request. When read, this object has an undefined value. When written, subsequent SNMP SET operations must use the new community string to be accepted as authentic.

When the reset button is pressed on the Access Point, this variable is reset to 'private'. This is also the default manufacturer value.

What is snmpGenWriteCommunityString?

This read-write value is the SNMP community string used for SET (write) operations against this device, reads back as undefined, requires subsequent SETs to use the newly written value to be accepted, and resets to the manufacturer default of "private" when the Access Point's reset button is pressed. An admin changes this from its default to restrict who can modify configuration via SNMP, remembering that a factory reset will revert it back to "private". For example, an admin securing the device would change this object away from the well-known default "private" string, understanding a physical reset button press would undo that change.
