Description: A reference to MIB definitions specific to the particular media being used to realize the interface. For example, if the interface is realized by an ethernet, then the value of this object refers to a document defining objects specific to ethernet. If this information is not present, its value should be set to the OBJECT IDENTIFIER { 0 0 }, which is a syntatically valid object identifier, and any conformant implementation of ASN.1 and BER must be able to generate and recognize this value.
What is vifSpecific?
This object holds an OBJECT IDENTIFIER pointing to a separate MIB module containing definitions specific to the underlying media type realizing this interface, such as Ethernet-specific objects, or the null value {0 0} if no such media-specific information exists. A management application follows this OID reference to locate additional, media-type-specific management objects for the interface beyond the generic ones in this table. For example, vifSpecific pointing at an Ethernet-specific object identifier tells the management station where to find additional Ethernet MIB objects describing that particular interface.
