tnMacTablePortLearning

Module: TN-MAC-MIB

OID (symbolic): TN-MAC-MIB::tnMacTablePortLearning

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.142.1.2.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: If the learning mode for a given port is greyed out, another module is in control of the mode, so that it cannot be changed by the user. An example of such a module is the MAC-Based Authentication under 802.1X. Each port can do learning based upon the following settings: Auto Learning is done automatically as soon as a frame with unknown SMAC is received. Disable No learning is done. Secure Only static MAC entries are learned, all other frames are dropped. Note: Make sure that the link used for managing the switch is added to the Static Mac Table before changing to secure learning mode, otherwise the management link is lost and can only be restored by using another non-secure port or by connecting to the switch via the serial interface.

What is tnMacTablePortLearning?

This read-write enumerated value sets how a given switch port learns MAC addresses: auto(1) learns automatically from any frame with an unknown source MAC, disable(2) learns nothing, or secure(3) learns only pre-configured static MAC entries and drops all other frames. An admin uses secure(3) to lock a port down to a known set of devices, but the MIB explicitly warns to add the management link's MAC to the static table first, since switching a mismanaged port to secure mode can cut off remote management access. For example, an admin locking down an access port to a single known device would set this object to secure(3) after first adding that device's MAC to tnMacStaticConfigTable.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.142.1.2.1.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> TN-MAC-MIB::tnMacTablePortLearning

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.142.1.2.1.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> TN-MAC-MIB::tnMacTablePortLearning.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.868.2.5.142.1.2.1.1.1 i <value>

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> tnMacTablePortLearning.1
