tcpHCInSegs
Module: TCP-MIB
OID (symbolic): TCP-MIB::tcpHCInSegs
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.6.17
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter64
Access: read-only
Description:
The total number of segments received, including those received in error. This count includes segments received
on currently established connections. This object is the 64-bit equivalent of tcpInSegs.
Discontinuities in the value of this counter are indicated via discontinuities in the value of sysUpTime.
What is tcpHCInSegs?
This 64-bit counter counts every TCP segment received by the system, including those with errors and segments on established connections, providing a high-capacity version of the older 32-bit tcpInSegs counter. It reflects total inbound TCP activity and is useful for monitoring systems that handle very high segment volumes where 32-bit counters would overflow. Network operators use this metric to track TCP traffic volume and detect unusual reception patterns.
