tcaTrapEnabler
Module: TCAv2-MIB
OID (symbolic): TCAv2-MIB::tcaTrapEnabler
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.148.1.5.1.1.1.9
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-write
Description: Indicates whether fyiTraps should be generated for this threshold crossing count (tcaObject). The physical layer counters' and gauges' (e.g., DS1, DS3, SONET, and PLCP) TCAs should have a default value of disabled(2). The SMDS service violations and higher layer protocol violations counters' TCAs should have a default value of enabled(1). A fyiTrap, when generated, shall have the following varBind list: tcaObject, tcaObjectDesc, tcaThreshold, and tcaTimeStamp.
What is tcaTrapEnabler?
This read-write object controls whether an fyiTrap notification is generated when this threshold is crossed, with values enabled(1) or disabled(2); the MIB recommends physical-layer counters default to disabled and service-violation counters default to enabled. Admins tune this per TCA entry to decide which threshold crossings are noisy background data versus which ones should actively page or alert someone. Setting tcaTrapEnabler to enabled(1) on a TCA tracking SMDS service violations ensures the switch fires a trap carrying tcaObject, tcaObjectDesc, tcaThreshold, and tcaTimeStamp whenever that threshold is crossed.
