What Is Spool-MIB?

Spool-MIB is a vendor MIB, apparently from Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme (SNI, per the sni OID branch), that manages print spool queues and job status on network print servers, exposing a table of spool devices with their name, current state, spooling-in/spooling-out activity, error messages, start date, priority, and count of waiting jobs. It exposes primarily operational/queue-status data, the software-level health of the print spooling service, rather than hardware sensor data. Its central monitoring purpose is process/queue status: administrators check spoolDevState and spoolDevErrorMsg to detect a stalled or errored spool device, and spoolDevWaitingJobs to catch a backlog building up on a print queue, while spoolDevSpoolin/spoolDevSpoolout indicate whether the device is actively accepting or dispatching jobs. It is a self-contained SNI enterprise MIB with no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs. It would be deployed on Siemens Nixdorf network print servers/spoolers in enterprise document-printing environments. Engineers can download the Spool-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Spool-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll spoolDevTab, indexed by spoolDevTabIndex, and check spoolDevState alongside spoolDevErrorMsg for each entry to catch a spool device that has stopped processing due to an error, then check spoolDevWaitingJobs to see how large the resulting backlog has grown. spoolDevSpoolin/spoolDevSpoolout would be compared to confirm the device is actually accepting new jobs while draining its queue, and spoolDevPriority would be reviewed when deciding which queue to service first during congestion.
