syslogMsgMsgID

Module: SYSLOG-MSG-MIB

OID (symbolic): SYSLOG-MSG-MIB::syslogMsgMsgID

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.192.1.2.1.9

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-only

Description: The msgid of the SYSLOG message. A zero-length string indicates an unknown msgid. The SYSLOG protocol specification constrains this string to printable US-ASCII code points.

What is syslogMsgMsgID?

Reports the msgid field of this syslog message, per RFC 5424, which identifies the type of message; a zero-length string means unknown. Admins/tools use this to programmatically classify or filter messages by event type without parsing the free-text message body. A consistent syslogMsgMsgID value across many entries would let an admin quickly filter for just that specific class of event, such as authentication failures.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.192.1.2.1.9
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> SYSLOG-MSG-MIB::syslogMsgMsgID

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.192.1.2.1.9.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> SYSLOG-MSG-MIB::syslogMsgMsgID.1
