stnBgpRouteAttrASPathSegment

Module: STN-BGP-MIB

OID (symbolic): STN-BGP-MIB::stnBgpRouteAttrASPathSegment

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.3551.2.12.5.1.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: OCTET STRING

Access: read-only

Description: The sequence of AS path segments. Each AS path segment is represented by a triple . The type is a 1-octet field which has two possible values: 1 AS_SET: unordered set of ASs a route in the UPDATE message has traversed 2 AS_SEQUENCE: ordered set of ASs a route in the UPDATE message has traversed. The length is a 1-octet field containing the number of ASs in the value field. The value field contains one or more AS numbers, each AS is represented in the octet string as a pair of octets according to the following algorithm: first-byte-of-pair = ASNumber / 256; second-byte-of-pair = ASNumber & 255;

What is stnBgpRouteAttrASPathSegment?

This holds the raw AS path segments a route has traversed, encoded as type/length/value triples where type 1 is AS_SET and type 2 is AS_SEQUENCE, each AS number packed as two octets. Admins decode it to see the actual autonomous system path a BGP route took, useful for diagnosing routing loops or unexpected path selection. A segment of type 2 (AS_SEQUENCE) containing AS 65001 followed by AS 65002 shows the route was learned via that specific AS chain.
