warmStart

Module: SNMPv2-MIB

OID (symbolic): SNMPv2-MIB::warmStart

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.2

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description:

A warmStart trap signifies that the SNMP entity, supporting a notification originator application, is reinitializing itself such that its configuration is unaltered.

What is warmStart?

This notification (trap) is sent by an SNMP agent when the device reboots or restarts while preserving its configuration settings, as opposed to a cold start that loses configuration. The trap signals that the device is back online and operational, allowing management systems to update their records and verify connectivity. Network monitoring systems use this to detect devices coming back online after planned or unplanned restarts.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' SNMPv2-MIB::warmStart
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.2

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:
