sFlowTimeout

Module: SFLOW-MIB

OID (symbolic): SFLOW-MIB::sFlowTimeout

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4300.1.1.4.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-write

Description: The time (in seconds) remaining before the sampler is released and stops sampling. When set, the owner establishes control for the specified period. When read, the remaining time in the interval is returned.

A management entity wanting to maintain control of the sampler is responsible for setting a new value before the old one expires.

When the interval expires, the agent is responsible for restoring all other entities in this row to their default values.

What is sFlowTimeout?

This read-write value is the number of seconds remaining before the current owner's control of the sampler expires and the agent releases it, resetting other sampler settings to their defaults. A manager holding the sampler must periodically write a fresh timeout value before the old one runs out to retain control. For example, an admin sets sFlowTimeout to 3600 to hold the sampler configuration for one hour, then refreshes it before it counts down to zero.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4300.1.1.4.1.3
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> SFLOW-MIB::sFlowTimeout

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4300.1.1.4.1.3.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> SFLOW-MIB::sFlowTimeout.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4300.1.1.4.1.3.1 i <value>

Start monitoring network switch or router with sFlow support, vendor-neutral standards-based MIB (sFlow.org) (sampling agent configuration) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the SFLOW-MIB::sFlowTimeout OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any network switch or router with sFlow support, vendor-neutral standards-based MIB (sFlow.org) (sampling agent configuration) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a network switch or router with sFlow support, vendor-neutral standards-based MIB (sFlow.org) (sampling agent configuration) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type sFlowTimeout into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The time (in seconds) remaining before the sampler is released and stops sampling. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value stays unexpectedly high or low relative to what you'd expect for this timer, since that can indicate a stuck or stale state. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
