sFlowOwner
Module: SFLOW-MIB
OID (symbolic): SFLOW-MIB::sFlowOwner
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4300.1.1.4.1.2
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: OwnerString
Access: read-write
Description: The entity making use of this sFlow sampler. The empty string indicates that the sFlow sampler is currently unclaimed. An entity wishing to claim an sFlow sampler must make sure that the sampler is unclaimed before trying to claim it. The sampler is claimed by setting the owner string to identify the entity claiming the sampler. The sampler must be claimed before any changes can be made to other sampler objects.
In order to avoid a race condition, the entity taking control of the sampler must set both the owner and a value for sFlowTimeout in the same SNMP set request.
When a management entity is finished using the sampler, it should set its value back to unclaimed. The agent must restore all other entities this row to their default values when the owner is set to unclaimed.
This mechanism provides no enforcement and relies on the cooperation of management entities in order to ensure that
competition for a sampler is fairly resolved.
What is sFlowOwner?
This read-write string names the management entity currently controlling this sFlow sampler; an empty string means the sampler is unclaimed and available. A manager must confirm the sampler is unclaimed, then claim it by writing its own identifying string together with a sFlowTimeout value in the same SNMP set, and must release it back to an empty string when done, since the agent resets other sampler settings to default whenever ownership is released. For example, a monitoring tool sets sFlowOwner to 'noc-collector-1' along with a timeout to claim exclusive configuration control of the sampler before adjusting its sampling rate.
