dot1dStpPortAdminPathCost

Module: RSTP-MIB

OID (symbolic): RSTP-MIB::dot1dStpPortAdminPathCost

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.2.19.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-write

Description: The administratively assigned value for the contribution of this port to the path cost of paths toward the spanning tree root.

Writing a value of '0' assigns the automatically calculated default Path Cost value to the port. If the default Path Cost is being used, this object returns '0' when read.

This complements the object dot1dStpPortPathCost or dot1dStpPortPathCost32, which returns the operational value of the path cost.

The value of this object MUST be retained across reinitializations of the management system.

What is dot1dStpPortAdminPathCost?

This value is the administrator-assigned path cost that a port contributes toward the total cost of reaching the spanning tree root, used by RSTP to pick the best, lowest-cost path through the network. Writing a value of 0 tells the switch to instead auto-calculate the port's cost based on its link speed, and reading back 0 confirms the automatic default is currently in effect rather than a manual override. For example, an admin might manually set this to 20000 on a port to make RSTP prefer a different path than the one it would otherwise choose automatically based on link speed alone.
