nlHostInPkts

Module: RMON2-MIB

OID (symbolic): RMON2-MIB::nlHostInPkts

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.16.14.2.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: ZeroBasedCounter32

Access: read-only

Description: The number of packets without errors transmitted to

this address since it was added to the nlHostTable. Note that this is the number of link-layer packets, so if a single network-layer packet is fragmented into several link-layer frames, this counter is incremented several times.

What is nlHostInPkts?

This running count tallies all packets successfully transmitted to a specific host without errors since it was first seen. Network engineers use it to track data volume per host and detect hosts with high or unusual traffic patterns. For example, a file server might have millions of inbound packets while a dormant workstation has few.
