sysMcpRedundDown
Module: REDUND-TRAP-MIB
OID (symbolic): REDUND-TRAP-MIB::sysMcpRedundDown
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.930.2.1.4.1.0.1
Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE
Description: When two MCP's are participating in redundancy, they are aware of each other through a mechanism based on heart beat protocol. When primary MCP detects the failure of the secondary, it will send the trap immediately. When the secondary MCP detects the primary has failed, it will take control, reset the switch and then send the trap. Varbind information returned with this trap: 1. sysMcpRedundIndx represents the slot where active MCP resides. 2. sysMcpRedundOperState represents the state of the failed MCP.
Examples
Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' REDUND-TRAP-MIB::sysMcpRedundDown snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.930.2.1.4.1.0.1
Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):
snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public
Example snmptrapd log entry:
zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:53841->[192.168.30.10]:162]: DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (131789393) 15 days, 6:04:53.93 SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: REDUND-TRAP-MIB::sysMcpRedundDown

Create custom SNMP monitor using the REDUND-TRAP-MIB::sysMcpRedundDown OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any network devices with redundant hardware, dual supervisors/active-standby pairs (failover trap notifications) from a single console.
