Module: REDSTONE-SONET-MIB
OID (symbolic): REDSTONE-SONET-MIB::rsSonetMediumLoopbackConfig
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2773.2.7.1.1.1.2
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-write
Description: The current loopback state of the SONET/SDH interface. The values mean:
sonetNoLoop Not in the loopback state. A device that is not capable of performing a loopback on this interface shall always return this value.
sonetFacilityLoop The received signal at this interface is looped back out through the corresponding transmitter in the return direction.
sonetTerminalLoop The signal that is about to be transmitted is connected to the associated incoming receiver.
sonetOtherLoop Loopbacks that are not defined here.
What is rsSonetMediumLoopbackConfig?
This puts a SONET/SDH interface into one of several loopback test modes - looping the received signal back out the transmitter (facility loop), looping the about-to-be-transmitted signal back into the local receiver (terminal loop), some other undefined loopback type, or no loopback at all for normal operation. Administrators use loopback modes to isolate whether a fault lies on the local equipment side or further out on the transmission facility, without needing physical test equipment. Setting this object to sonetFacilityLoop would let an admin verify the far-end transmission path is intact by having any signal sent to this interface reflected straight back.
