rsFt1NextIfIndex
Module: REDSTONE-FRACTIONAL-T1-MIB
OID (symbolic): REDSTONE-FRACTIONAL-T1-MIB::rsFt1NextIfIndex
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2773.2.6.1.1
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: RsNextIfIndex
Access: read-only
Description: Coordinate ifIndex value allocation for entries in rsFt1IfTable.
A GET of this object returns the next available ifIndex value to be used to create an entry in the associated interface table; or zero, if no valid ifIndex value is available. This object also returns a value of zero when it is the lexicographic successor of a varbind presented in an SNMP GETNEXT or GETBULK request, for which circumstance it is assumed that ifIndex allocation is unintended.
Successive GETs will typically return different values, thus avoiding collisions among cooperating management clients seeking to create table entries simultaneously.
What is rsFt1NextIfIndex?
This read-only value hands out the next available ifIndex to use when creating a new entry in the FT1 interface table, or returns zero if none are available. An admin's management station reads this object immediately before provisioning a new fractional T1 interface, since the returned index is then used to configure the new row and successive reads deliberately return different values to avoid two operators colliding on the same index. For example, a provisioning script GETs rsFt1NextIfIndex, receives 14, and then uses 14 as rsFt1IfIndex when creating the new FT1 interface entry.
